Join Our Free Night-Time Running Event in Support of This Girl Can

Feb 19, 2025 | News

We are proud to announce a partnership with The Maidstone Harriers Run and Tri Club, as we launch a brand-new initiative designed to support This Girl Can's (TGC) ‘Let’s Lift the Curfew’ campaign. This campaign highlights the fact that nearly 75% of women modify their outdoor activities during the winter months.

Recent research from TGC revealed that 24% of women make sure they walk on well-lit routes after dark, 23% avoid certain areas altogether, and 20% are extra cautious, often checking behind them to make sure they’re not being followed while exercising outdoors. These adjustments reflect the safety challenges many women face when staying active during the winter season.

In response to this, we are holding a free running event on 28th February at 7pm, starting and ending at Lockmeadow Health Club, led by The Maidstone Harriers Run and Tri club. The run will be 5km and focused on women’s safety and inclusivity at night.

While the event is primarily aimed at women, men are also welcome to join the run if they’d like to get involved. Participants of all levels are encouraged to join, whether you are an experienced or casual runner, we want everyone to get involved. High-vis vests and carry colourful lights will be available, and there will be a speaker playing music throughout the run.

Why we are doing this

Exercising outdoors shouldn’t feel unsafe or intimidating. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to stay active and experience the benefits of physical activity, even when the nights are longer. We are taking a stand against the barriers that often hold people back from staying fit and healthy in the winter months.
